SPIN! Partners with Local Icons Gates and Roasterie to Make Pineapple Pizza Magic

Kansas City, MO (June 24, 2013) – Not only is SPIN! ® adding stone hearth-roasted pineapple to its long list of toppings, the local Neapolitan pizzeria is partnering with Kansas City icons Gates Bar-B-Q and the Roasterie to make pineapple pizza magic with its new BBQ di Pollo e Pineapple pizza. One of several new menu additions, BBQ di Pollo e Pineapple serves up a combination of Kansas City favorites. SPIN!’s hand spun thin-and-bubbly crust is topped with crushed roma tomatoes mixed with Gates Bar-B-Q Original Sauce, caramelized onions, roasted pineapple, fresh mozzarella, and oven-roasted chicken tossed in the Roasterie's Super Tuscan Coffee BBQ Sauce. 

“The rich, sweet, mocha flavor of the Roasterie’s barbecue sauce is the perfetta (perfect) complement to the tangy, peppery notes of the Gates sauce for our new BBQ di Pollo e Pineapple pizza,” says SPIN! co-owner Gail Lozoff. “This turned out to be an ideal opportunity to introduce pineapple to our menu while teaming up with two Kansas City businesses whose sauces combine to make an incredible pizza.”

While BBQ di Pollo e Pineapple pizza will be a permanent addition to SPIN!’s menu, a series of pineapple pizzas will be offered every week throughout the summer. SPIN! is dubbing its program “The Pineapple Project.”

“Let’s face it,” says Lozoff. “You don’t see much pineapple on pizzas in Italy. It took us a long time to cave into guest requests for it. So, now that we’re doing it, we want to make it a big deal!”

“The Pineapple Project” pizzas will range from a bianca (white) pizza featuring potato, goat cheese, and pineapple on a crust brushed with garlic roasted olive oil glaze to a rossa (red crushed roma tomato base) pizza generously covered in sausage and pineapple. Another pizza, Prosciutto e Spinaci (Italian ham, spinach and roasted fig onion marmalade), will be available on an on-going basis with sweet roasted pineapple added for $1.25.

In addition to introducing pineapple to the menu, a retired guest favorite pizza is returning. The Greco is making a comeback with its Greek-influenced roasted red peppers, spinach, kalamata olives and feta cheese.

The Greco and pineapple pizzas are part of SPIN!’s wide variety of affordable hand-spun, stone-fired, traditional thin-and-bubbly crust, rustic whole wheat crust, and gluten-free pizzas.

SPIN!’s pizza dough is made fresh every day using several types of flour including one imported from Italy, and its gluten free crust is renowned for its flavor. All the toppings are roasted in stone hearth ovens each day, including mushrooms, caramelized onions, artichokes, capers, and even pecans, pine nuts, pancetta, and now pineapple. Many of the cheeses are hand grated.

SPIN! also offers a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, signature Panini and Italian deli sandwiches, and gelato. All of SPIN!’s soups, salad dressings, pizza toppings, and ingredients are prepared fresh daily from fresh produce and meats.

SPIN!’s menu is created in collaboration with another Kansas City icon, James Beard Award Winning Chef Michael Smith.

SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza’s First Franchise Location Open in L.A.

KANSAS CITY, MO (May 20, 2013) – SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza’s first franchise location is now open in Southern California in the City of Orange near Honda Center and Angels Stadium of Anaheim in Orange County. The restaurant is operated by Hofman Hospitality Group (HHG), which has completed a franchise agreement to open 37 SPIN!® restaurants throughout Southern California. SPIN!’s award-winning, premium fast-casual concept is known for its exceptional artisan food made from fresh ingredients without the gourmet price, its eclectic, affordable premium wines, and its inviting and warm culture and environment.

SPIN!’s first franchisee, HHG, also founded and operates two successful restaurant concepts in the West including 17 Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que locations in California, Arizona and Nevada, and five Hof’s Hut restaurants in Southern California. HHG will open a second SPIN! in early 2014 in Los Alamitos, Calif.

Free Family-Friendly Bike Rides for All Ages and Experience Levels Guided by Skilled Cyclists Who Emphasize Fun, Safety

KANSAS CITY, MO (May 2, 2012) - Every week during the summer, hundreds of bike riders of every age, shape, and experience level head out on the free supervised bike rides at SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza. With rides four days a week and a variety of routes--including shorter rides perfect for families, novices and those who haven’t ridden bikes in a while, challenging courses for advanced cyclists, and a mountain bike trail--there’s a ride for everyone. Fun, safety and camaraderie are emphasized. After the rides, cyclists and their friends and families receive a 10 percent discount on food at SPIN!  The rides run from May 6 through August 31.

Every year, the SPIN! Bike Rides support a local charitable organization. This summer, SPIN!® is partnering with Kansas City’s own Heart to Heart and will donate $1 to Heart to Heart for every ride completed, up to $3,500. Funds raised will provide humanitarian and medical aid in Kansas City and around the globe. In addition, BikeSource technicians will regularly offer free minor bike adjustments at rides and a chance to win gift cards.

This is the sixth year that SPIN! has sponsored the free community bike rides, which are led by experienced cyclists. “Our motto is ‘We Ride, Then We Eat Pizza’,” says co-owner Gail Lozoff, who wanted to bring Kansas Citians the experience she has enjoyed riding bikes and eating pizza in Italy. “Whether you haven’t been on a bike in years, you’re a casual rider, or an accomplished cyclist, SPIN! Bike Rides offer a fun opportunity to ride with a group while helping Heart to Heart.”

Lozoff says that inexperienced riders can feel confident that the cyclists hired to lead SPIN! Bike Rides have the experience to help them feel comfortable riding safely with groups and on the road. “First timers who are a little nervous will be paired with a buddy who will help him or her learn the route and get comfortable with their bike,” she says. “This is a chance for bicyclists to have the fun and security of riding in a group, get cycling tips and advice, and learn the rules of the road. Spandex cycling gear isn’t required, just a helmet.”

Advanced cyclists who ride at a faster pace or are looking for a recovery or training ride will find a committed and diverse group of long-distance riders who follow both guided and un-guided 18-20 mile routes several times a week. Cyclists preparing for local organized charity rides also join the longer SPIN! Bike Rides to train.

No advance registration is ever necessary. Participants just need to show up and sign in.

Following the rides, friends and family joining participants all enjoy a 10 percent discount on food at SPIN!, where décor incorporating bike wheels, sprockets, art, and patio rails that are actually bike racks accentuate the connection between SPIN! and cycling. “Lots of people stay and enjoy talking to old and new friends and being part of our community,” says Lozoff. “It’s a great way to share a healthy activity followed by a healthy meal.”

JP Shores, who designs and manages the SPIN! Bike Rides, has a B.S. in sports science/athletic training and an M.S.Ed. in health education.

The weekly rides will continue through August 31 at four of SPIN!’s five locations. Twelve and 20-mile rides are held at 6:15 p.m. on Mondays at SPIN! in Overland Park, 6541 W. 119th St.. A 10-mile ride begins at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays in the second tier parking lot behind the SPIN! in midtown Kansas City at 4950 Main St. On Thursdays, riders at the Lenexa SPIN!, 9474 Renner Rd., can choose from a 6:15 p.m. guided mountain bike trail exclusively for experienced riders or un-guided 14 or 19-mile road rides. At 9:15 a.m. on Saturdays, riders enjoy a choice of 16 and 20-mile routes around Longview Lake before returning to SPIN! at 1808 NW Chipman Rd.

Kansas City, Mo. - SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza has been named a Breakout Brand by Nation’s Restaurant News (NRN) magazine. SPIN! is featured in “The NRN 50: Breakout Brands” issue released this week, which profiles “some of today’s hottest emerging concepts – ones making their marks with their innovative experiences and cutting-edge cuisines” writes editor Robin Lee Allen.

“NRN’s nationwide network of editors scouted their regions looking for unique up-and-coming brands to include. The criteria to qualify as a ‘Breakout Brand’ were both concrete and intuitive. Brands had to range in size from a couple of units to 75, have an interesting point of differentiation and have demonstrable expansion plans. Less easy to quantify but equally important, they had to be generating excitement among consumers, operator peers and potential investors,” notes Allen.
